Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet Secretary Hal Heiner announced May 18th that Jackson County has been certified as a Kentucky Work Ready Community in Progress.
The Kentucky Work Ready Community certification program from the Kentucky Workforce Innovation Board (KWIB) and the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet assures employers that a local workforce has the talent and skills necessary to staff existing jobs and to master the innovative technologies new jobs will require.

Jackson Energy Cooperative’s contractor crew faced a dilemma. Danny Bingham, who works for Davis H. Elliot, needed his crew to replace three electric poles on Sparks Ridge in Jackson County. The problem was the location; it was so hilly, rocky, and filled with trees that a truck could not get to the poles.

Southeastern Kentucky is known for its natural beauty, including an abundance of trees and the Daniel Boone National Forest. We appreciate the shaded canopies and fall foliage and learn to live with the occasional tree across the road or fallen tree limbs.

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has appointed Jackson Energy President & CEO Carol Wright to serve on the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.
The 16-member board coordinates postsecondary and adult education in the state.
The council is composed of 13 citizen members, one student and one faculty member, all appointed by the governor. The additional member, the commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Education, serves as a non-voting member.

Big trucks with flashing electrical arcs draw students to Jackson Energy's safety demonstrations.
Words like "wow" and shouts of "Do it again!" drift across the parking lot as the buzz of the electrical hum and punctuation of voltage arcs mesmerize the students. It's not the special effects Jackson Energy Safety Director Brandon Long hopes they remember from the demonstration. He wants them to remember to be safe around electricity.
